The Challenge
A powerful hailstorm pummeled the roof of this beautiful Athens home in Spring Lake Estates, leaving the shingles dented and bruised and the homeowners worried about potential leaks and interior damage. Aware that handling the issue quickly was the best way to avoid further issues, they immediately filed a claim with ALFA, who promptly approved a full roof replacement.
The Solution
The IMPACT crew got to work immediately. As always, we carefully removed the old system to inspect the wooden roof deck for any hidden water damage. After replacing any weak or rotten wood to restore the roof’s structural integrity, we then upgraded the moisture barrier by installing a premium synthetic underlayment for superior moisture protection. The ventilation system was also improved by adding ridge vent along the peak of the roof, allowing hot air to escape the attic and significantly extending the life of the shingles.
The homeowners chose GAF Timberline UHDZ architectural shingles in the color Weathered Wood. UHDZ is GAF’s latest premium shingle, about 20% thicker than standard architectural shingles for extra strength and durability. It also features StainGuard Plus copper granules to prevent algae growth, keeping the roof looking new for many years to come. The system was finished off with GAF TimberTex ridge cap shingles, providing a neat finish and extra protection at the roof’s highest stress points. New metal drip edge was installed along the full perimeter of the home, to protect the fascia and decking and to bring the house up to code.
