Project: Hail Damage Roof Replacement – Athens, AL

We documented the hail damage thoroughly, and when the State Farm adjuster came out, we met them on site. Our collaborative approach paid off – State Farm agreed to a full roof replacement. With that approval, we reviewed shingle options with the client. They were drawn to Owens Corning Duration shingles in the rich Teak color. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, we could offer them an extended warranty and the assurance that OC shingles are top quality Once materials arrived, we started the project. We removed the old shingles and underlayment, finding the decking in good shape (no hidden rot, confirming that acting on hail damage early prevented leaks). We then installed Owens Corning WeatherLock® ice & water barrier in the valleys for extra protection – a step beyond what code requires, but one we include to meet OC’s warranty standards and to fortify against future storms. We also put down Owens Corning ProArmor® synthetic underlayment over the rest of the deck for a secure secondary layer. For ventilation, we said goodbye to the ugly old vents and cut in a continuous ridge vent along the main peaks. This vent, paired with existing soffit vents, would dramatically improve airflow in the attic. Next came the Owens Corning Duration shingles in Teak. We carefully integrated DuraRidge® hip & ridge shingles along the ridge vent and hips, in a matching Teak color. They provided a high-profile cap and completed the look. We also replaced the home’s downspouts with new ones in a color-matched finish, as the old downspouts were faded and dented (this was included in the insurance scope since some were dinged by hail). Along the eaves, we installed new drip edge metal. The whole system – from the deck up – was now built with Owens Corning components, qualifying the homeowner for an Owens Corning Preferred Protection warranty. Our crew worked efficiently and respectfully, cleaning as we went. By the end of the second day, the new roof was complete. We invited the homeowner for a final walkthrough, explaining how the ridge vent works and pointing out the quality touches like the neat chimney flashing and painted vent pipes.
